Losin' My Mind

I was sitting at work yesterday, trying to shake off the lingering dizziness that the surgery drugs have left me with, when I realized something.

I'm missing information.

There are gaps in my pre-surgery memory.

I remember laying talking to one of the anesthesiologists and the man telling me he was waiting for his colleague.

I remember teasing Lord V 'cuz the book I brought to the Hospital was a cheesy romance (complete with bodice ripping cover) and he was going to have to carry it around with him while I was in surgery...

(hehehehe)

And...

I remember waking up from surgery.

Mmm....k?

Where the heck did the rest of the memories go?

I asked Lord V if the anesthesiologist had snuck some drugs into my IV--he said no, that I was wide awake and talking to him when they finally wheeled me towards the carving room.

I have no memory of this, Peeps.

It's a bit disconcerting!

My grey matter has been messed with.

This entire weekend I've struggled with following conversations.

I have a hard time following a full train of thought.

You know how it is talking to a person on a cellphone and words get spaced out because of a bad connection?

This is my brain post surgery, Peeps.

Someone inform OnStar.

My brain is missing!

Um.......were there, perhaps, some conciousness-altering drugs used as opposed to completely knocking you out? if you were "awake" when they wheeled you into surgery but have sketchy memories both prior to and after - but no memory of the event itself - that is probably what happened. I believe those types of drugs are more favored these days as opposed to the old sodium pentathol stuff. Don't struggle with it too much - if you don't remember, chances are you don't really need to! :D
Could be worse.......Saturday, my village called and said they were missing an idiot.......... :))

Depending upon what anesthetic they used it is probably the result of that, but maybe you should call your doctor and ask about this? I can tell you first hand that it is not a good idea to ignore symptoms where you brain is involved.

Good wishes on a speedy recovery.

I agree with Laoch, let the doctor know. I've had surgeries before with gaps missing before, but never had problems after the stuff has worn off. It sounds fishy to me.

Dragonlady: I had the full knock-me-out surgery (not the in office one) While I appreciate not remembering being dragged to the carving room, it's a bit scary to think there are pieces of my memory missing even if it was drug induced!! argh

Laochie: The fog is pretty much gone now. Just a little bit of it remains. I hate the feeling...but its a familiar one as I've grown older --post surgery. I don't remember feeling like this as a kid after surgery--but then...I seem to be missing memories :)

LaChanson(sue): Its wearing off so I think I'll be ok. Its just annoying as heck!!

um......i have to echo the sentiments of Laoch and Sue..... since i now know you had the "down for the count" type stuff - the rebound from that should NOT be days! just hours - possibly 24 - not more than that though. its worth mentioning to the doc!

Hi Kat,
I really like your idea about melting the snow but....Don't you think that maybe the little brat will get a shock or two?.....ZZZZZAAAPPP! goes the doggie!....LOL! OK She's a BRAT but she's a really cute one!
As for the memory gaps, I have to say after the many surgeries I've had (last count was 25)
I can relate....Sometimes I can remember EVERYTHING even the dreams I have while under other times I remember NOTHING, although I am a little concerned with how long it has taken to get through your system....Drink LOTS of water and take care of you!

Hmmm..maybe you should drink more alcohol? It'll make this bit of memory loss seem completely NORMAL! ;)
