I remember before I developed the 'thinking mind'. before you start thinking to ones self. I used to call my inner thoughts "manny". I found the article very interesting and that people like this do very well communicating with animals.
I have read some of Temple Grandin's books, however, each person on the autism spectrum is different and you really have to learn what their particular strengths and weaknesses are in order to help them. Our son was finally diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when he was 14 and it was such an "aha" moment. But now he's 21 and we're still flailing about as to how to help launch him into a functioning adult life. It's very disheartening to learn that unemployment and under-employment is very high even amongst those with Asperger's. Our son is in college, but has never held a job and is terrified to. What will become of him? We don't know. But I do know the earlier you get started on a plan, the better.
